This incredible 50mm lens not only produces sharp colorful pictures, it does it fast. For the price, which is hovering around $125, you are getting a superior performance lens that can be used for everything from sports photography to portraits. The Nikon 50mm d 1.8 does not feature Nikon’s Vibration Reduction technology, so there is a greater learning curve in using this lens. Despite this, its such a fast lens that you almost won’t notice the lack of VR. Autofocus on the Nikon 50mm d is also very responsive and allows you to lock onto your subject in motion.

This is the lens to get for any Nikon digital SLR. It doesn’t have a zoom feature and believe it or not, it doesn’t need it.  This is the lens that you can work with to become a good, rather than sloppy photographer. It forces you to contemplate perspective, composition, and arrangement. You can take several more pictures without the artificial light of a flash.

The Nikon 50mm d does have a “bargain” feel to it and it is a bit on the plastic-feeling side, but the photos its produces makes up for the feel. The 50mm 1.8 lens is small, light and perfect for everyday usage. The 50mm delivers stunning colors and clarity, sharp and fast focus, fantastic low light performance, and an outstanding range of depth of field. With this lens anyone can take a picture of someone’s face, capturing their eyes in perfect focus and allowing most of their face to fill the exterior of the depth of field, resulting in a flattering soft focus.

Considering the Nikon 50mm d 1.8? This lens is well-constructed and solid without being heavy and it really adds a lot of creativity to your camera bag for a very modest cost. It truly is a wonderful lens at low light level, and generates great “bokeh” (background blur). This is one of the most enjoyable lenses I’ve ever owned and yet its also the cheapest. Its fast enough to use in low-light conditions, but also sophisticated enough to capture a great portrait.
